Boomer - 2 year old Rhodesian Ridgeback. His owners could no longer care for him due to their schedule. He is a very impressive looking dog, loves women and children but tends to be aloof with some men. He is very comfortable and playful with my husband after only a few weeks. He would do best in a single mother/father home, though again he does great here with both of us. |
![]() |
Chum - A good sized male about one year old. He looks like a Bernese Mountain Dog only a little smaller. Very affectionate and likes to play. A very handsome dog. Good with other dogs and children. |

Jacob - Six year old Belgium Tervuren-Collie Mix who was rescued from someone's back yard where he was tied and not getting any food, water or attention on a regular basis. He is very affectionate, mellow, and good looking. Gets along with all the other dogs. He had to have huge sections of his coat cut off because it was so matted. Looks great now. |
![]() |
Reggie - About 3 ½ year old black male Chow Mix. He is beautiful, good with kids and loves to be petted. Well behaved even when he is exited to be getting attention. He is a very nice dog. Housebroken and eager to please. Does fine with other dogs but would prefer to be an only dog. |
![]() |
Sam -
A large male Rottweiler that is very docile, affectionate, and good with
other dogs. He has been in one home but had to return because he did not
get along with the cat. He was great with the kids and they loved him in
every way otherwise.
|
![]() |
Zeus - 2 year old Doberman who was to be euthanized. He loves to play, and is very affectionate. He has one floppy ear which makes him look very cute. He tends to bond strongly with one owner but is good with visitors including kids. He would be best in a single person home with no other dogs. |
![]() |
Drak (aka Dracula) – Approximately 2 ½ year old male German Shepherd Mix. He is very handsome with dark markings and very white teeth (thus his name). He was found as a stray who camped out on a woman’s front porch. He decided that this was a good house and began protecting it for her. He was not aggressive but did “a lot of talk” and thus began to deter her guests. Has a good temperament and is very smart, although at times he is quite an intimidator. Will not be placed until his training is completed. Due to his intelligence and size only an experienced dog owner will be considered. |
| Alissa (aka Issa) – adopted - 11 year old West German Shepherd, protection trained, Schutzhund trained. Very house trained. Does not like most other dogs and came to us because of problems she was having sharing space with neighbor dogs. Recently placed in permanent home with two kids and two other dogs. | |
![]() |
Baby – adopted - Shepherd Mix (looks like a miniature shepherd). Originally found living under a dilapidated trailer with her 14 brothers and sisters. The owner of the trailer shot the mother and left the pups to die a horrible death of starvation and disease. All but three died. Sister to Toby and Tia. She was placed with her brother Toby in a family with kids. |
| Bailey – adopted – German Shepherd Mix found with his brother tied to a bag of dog food abandoned in a gravel pit. Placed in a very nice home with two other dogs. He hangs out at Animal Hospital of Waterford with his new owner on most days. | |
| Baron – adopted - Very large and handsome AKC Registered American Shepherd found tied to an old rusty box springs and bed frame in a shed. He had not received any food or water for over 1 week. His owner found alcohol more important than taking care of his dog. When he ended up in jail poor Baron didn’t even get the bread and water his owner was getting. He was permanently voted into our home (our first dog) as a perimeter dog. He recently had to be euthanized due to health problems. We miss him dearly. | |
![]() |
Baxter - adopted - German Shepherd Mix, protection trained. He was the other perimeter dog for the property. Found with his brother Bailey at 3 months of age tied to a bag of dog food in a gravel pit. Tall, sleek, fast, and handsome. Always spotless. Likes things his own way. He has recently been placed and his new family loves him to death. Baxter is in heaven. Nicki still "borrows" him for community service work at the Elementary schools, nursing homes and such. |
| Beautiful Girl (aka Sweetie) – adopted-4 month old AKC Registered Dalmation female. She was born deaf and was going to be euthanized by the breeder. The man who rescued her was evicted from his home by his landlord because he wasn’t supposed to have pets and then placed the puppy with us. She was placed very quickly in the home of a sign language interpreter. Beautiful Girl knows a variety of signs now and loves her new home. | |
| Belle- adopted – About 2 year old Black Lab Mix found as a stray roaming the streets. Unclaimed after many newspaper adds and posters. Excellent with other dogs and children. Placed in a home with two small children and a great big fenced-in yard. No longer allowed to roam the streets. | |
| Bonnie – adopted - American German Shepherd Mix. She was adopted before we knew it by a family with another dog on the outskirts of town. | |
![]() |
Bowzer – adopted - About an 8 month old Malinois Shepherd Mix female. She was rescued form the dog pound to be euthanized that night. She is very affectionate and likes attention. Well behaved on the leash. Good with other dogs. A young couple absolutely fell in love with her when they met her, even untrained. She is a real cutey. I have a feeling we will be hearing from them for some additional training, which is fine. |

Bruno - adopted - About 2 or 3 year old Shepherd Mix. Found roaming a neighborhood for 2 weeks. Short tail, reddish coat with Shepherd markings. Hazel eyes. Handsome. Very loving. Likes to be right next to you. Loves to be petted. Likes to play. His best friend was Shadow. He has been placed in a new home with two kids and a cat. His new owners love him and walk him often. |

Buddy – adopted – Approximately 16 weeks old male puppy. Looks to be a Yellow Lab Mix (some hound or St. Bernard). A product of a divorce. Big lug of a guy. We liked him very much. Has been placed in a very nice home. |
| Caesar – adopted - About 5 year old male Rottweiler who could no longer stay at his old home. He was kind of over weight when he came to us, but has lost about 10 pounds since on the Nicki diet and exercise program. Has a few more to go though. He is good with kids and other dogs. House trained. | |
![]() |
Chip (aka Chipper, Chippie) – A 6 year old male Yellow Lab Mix. Chip has essentially lived his whole life in a basement. He was apparently fed very well as he is very over weight. Not sure yet how he is with children, cats or other dogs, but Nicki is working with him. He likes to eat carrots for treats, is very friendly, and knows his commands well. Unfortunately, Chip passed away in his sleep during the night. He was happy right up to his dinner that night. I am sure he appreciated the time he had with us just seeing the light of day and other dogs and people. We love you Chipper. |

Cinnamon - adopted - Approximately 2-year-old female husky-chow mix. She is very pretty. She has blue feathering in both eyes. Considering her life so far (See Sully's Story), she is a great dog. She must have been an inside dog. She is house trained and well behaved. I like her a lot and feel bad that she has to stay outside most of the time because she really does want to be right with you. |
![]() |
Dakota (aka Kota) - adopted - 1 year old shepherd mix. Looks like a wolf. About 65 pounds. Found at the Dog Pound to be euthanized the next day because he'd been there 2 months. Wonderful dog. Very handsome. Loves to play, but settles down well in the house. |

Deena – adopted - About one year old female German Shepherd mix. Found as a stray this fall but never claimed. She is a sweetheart and very cute. She is house trained already, good with cats and other dogs, and seems great with children. Her personality is very laid back and obedient. I like her a lot and she is likely to go quickly. Shown below with her new owner who just loves her to death as you can see. |
![]() |
Dotty - 1 year old Dalmatian mix (probably English setter) that was abandoned with her brother Sully, Cinnamon and Cloey. She is a petite little girl but very muscular. She is not shy yet not bold either. She is friendly but only gives love after she knows you, probably because she was abandoned by her previous owners in the middle of nowhere (see Sully's story). Adopted with Tiah to home with children in the country. She has made a great hit with her new owner. |
![]() |
Dozer - adopted - One year old Rottweiler found at the dog pound to be euthanized in one hour when rescued. He has a very nice personality, built like a rock, and still has some puppy left in him. He is outstanding with children. He was found with a training collar and a leash still attached, but his owners never claimed him. |

Ginger (aka Princess Saluki, Saluki, or Suki) - adopted - This dog is quite the lover. Found just after Christmas huddled along the highway in a snow bank shivering. She appears to be an Arabian Greyhound (Saluki). She was nothing but bones when we found her, had no manners whatsoever (stood up on counter, jumped, garbage snooped, stole food, etc.). She is the most appreciative dog we have ever had. She loves to hug you, curl up with you and put her chin on your neck./shoulder. She runs really fast! Very goofy and playful now. She is sort of an air-headed blond type. She thinks she is a princess and loves to be pampered. Rudy's best friend, now likes Rocko since Rudy is in new home. Rudy taught her to play (she didn't know how when she came, didn't even know what a ball was). |

Gretta - adopted - AKC American Shepherd about 3 years old. Came from the humane society to be euthanized the next day. Her owners divorced and decided to have her euthanized instead of trying find her a home. The Humane Society talked them into leaving her for placement. She was there for one month. Don't understand this as she has papers and is a great dog, house trained, and good with kids. Now placed in new home with 20 acres and one other dog |
![]() |
Gunner - adopted - Shepherd mix. Came to us from the Humane Society to be euthanized the next day. Tore his ACL the first day at our place. Healed great. Gunner is now placed and his new family loves him. He goes for walks every day and gets to sleep on the bed. He likes to smile on command. Best friend of Clifford. |
| Hank (aka Buck) –About a two year old male Dalmatian Lab mix. He is white with grey freckles, black spots and patches. He was found as a stray and seems to be well-mannered and good with other dogs. When he comes out of the kennel he immediately comes to you and sits so he can be petted and scratched. He will make someone a great dog for the kids. | |

Jake (aka Jakey) - adopted - 3 year old registered Rottweiler about 100 pounds. He is very tall and long-chested. Very cute dog, likes to be loved, house trained, loving, sleeps on the bed (and takes up the majority of it!). Has started protection training and doing very well. Likes peanut butter sandwiches. Placed in a very nice home in the country with one other dog and two kids. He gets to sleep on the bed and gets all the peanut butter sandwiches he can beg out of the boys. |
| Jenna - adopted - Jake's sister. Very sweet Rottweiler. Given up by her family because they were going to have a baby (not sure why this mattered). Just placed in new home and they love her. She is totally in love with kids. She is already inseparable from their 9-year-old daughter. | |
| Keno – adopted - About 2 year old German Shepherd whose owners could no longer take care of her. She was originally adopted as a stray by her previous owners. She has a nice temperament and is excellent with children. | |
| Onyx – adopted - Female Rottweiler approximately 3 years old found in a warehouse where she lived all her life. She was adopted by a young couple with children in the country. | |
| Penn – adopted - Was supposed to be pure breed Rottweiler (had paid a stud fee and all) but when they took them to the vet to have their tails docked the vet nicely said “you know these are not pure Rottweilers don’t you?” It was only then that the owner’s friend who dog-sat for them broke down and told them she broke loose and was seen in the vicinity of a male black lab. Brother to Pitt. Penn has been place with two other dogs in a home with a fence and gets to sleep in the bed. | |

Peppie - adopted - Approximately 5 week old male German Shepherd Australian Shepherd mix puppy. Found in a tied black plastic garbage bag on the curb on garbage day with his sister Roxie. They most certainly would have perished if they hadn’t been rescued when they were. Peppie has been adopted (now known as Skunker). |
| Pitt (aka Torey) – adopted - Brother to Penn above. Pitt has been place with a baseball coach and his wife in a house all to himself. He has grown to a very handsome young man. Last seen dragging his pregnant owner across Mercyhurst Northeast campus happier than ever, as were his new owners. | |

Roxie - adopted - Approximately 5 week old female German Shepherd Australian Shepherd mix puppy. Found in a tied black plastic garbage bag on the curb on garbage day with her brother Peppie. They most certainly would have perished if they hadn’t been rescued when they were. She is a very well behaved puppy and was well on her way to being house trained when she was adopted. She didn’t have a single accident in the house for the five days she was in our house. She is a very laid back puppy, but if you get her going, look out! She settles down on command. |

Rocko - adopted - About 2 years old Catahoula Leopard Dog. He has one blue eye and one brown eye. Very handsome and intelligent. I like him alot. Enjoys playing jokes on us. He likes to play with the rocks in the pond like a raccoon, pulling one out once in a while and prancing around with it like it was the grand prize or something. Ginger (and most girls) likes to play with him. He's quite the Casanova. |

Rudy – Adopted - One of our saddest stories. Chocolate lab. We found him when he was 6 weeks old in a cardboard box in an unheated hallway of a townhouse. He weighed 6 pounds (what a 2 week old should weigh), was skin and bones with a belly bloated with worms and mange so bad he lost his hair in his nose, ears, tail, and feet. We had him only 8 weeks and he weighed 40 pounds! Nicki can do miracles. He was house trained as soon as his explosive watery diarrhea went away (about 5 days). Very playful, smart and a beautiful coat. Would never know he was about 3 days from death when we got him. He was Ginger's best friend. He is great with kids, cats, rats, and all our animals. He was placed in a great home for about 6 months, but was returned to us due to a family disagreement. Now in a great new home with a young couple who couldn’t wait to get him home for the holidays so they could pamper him. |
| Sasha - adopted - Approximately 2 year old Husky/Samoyed mix. Owner left town without her. She is pure white and very beautiful. Very calm. Just came to us so no pictures yet. | |
![]() |
Shadow - adopted - 2 year old registered American German Shepherd. He has beautiful long hair with dark markings. He has been great at our house and is very well-mannered. Loves to swim and run with the other dogs. Best friends with Bruno, but now Bruno spends most of his time in the house. |
| Sheba – adopted - About 2 year old shepherd mix rescued from the most deplorable and cruel conditions we have ever seen. Total neglect and abuse abounded in this hell she called home. No man or beast could have endured such mercilessness, but some how she did. She has been placed in a very nice home with one other dog, no kids in the country on several acres of land. Her new owners cannot say enough nice about her. | |

Sully - adopted - 1 year old Dalmatian mix (probably English setter) that was abandoned with Cinnamon and Cloey, and his sister Dotty. Their owners were last seen speeding away from the secluded country road were they dropped them with all four dogs chasing their car. I am sure that Sully was thinking this was just a game or maybe a mistake that someone would actually leave them with no food or water in the middle of the winter. He was wrong. Fortunately the neighbor who witnessed them being abandoned rescued them and brought them to us. He is good with children and all other dogs. He is very mild mannered and calm but not submissive. Likes to be hugged and scratched. Great in the house. He learned the invisible fence at our house in less than one day! He has beautiful brown eyes and a really nice coat. I like him a lot. Placed with a young couple in a GREAT home with two other dogs. He gets to sleep on the bed and everything. |
![]() |
Tiah - adopted - Approximately 1 year old female shepherd mix. Her owners got divorced and moved away. She is about full grown and only weighs about 25 pounds!! She is very petite and looks just like a miniature German Shepherd. Sister of Toby and Baby and from the same home as Buddy. Very loving and house trained. |
![]() |
Toby – adopted - Approximately one year old male shepherd mix. Much cuter than his picture. Very petite like his sisters Baby and Tiah. Placed with Baby and Buddy in a vry nice home with kids in the country. |

Trixie - adopted - 3 year old Rottweiler mix female found running along a road. About as skinny a dog as I had ever seen. She barked all the time and was pathetic. I hated her. Would eat anything as much as you gave her. Somehow she wormed her way into the house and now sleeps at my feet every night. She has gained her weight back and is now a little "curvy". Loves to wrestle really hard and is our best tug-of-war player. She kills muskrats out of the pond for us and has been unanimously voted into the family for good. She rides to work with me some days and waits patiently. She is now my favorite. According to me she is our best dog though my wife for some reason takes offense to this statement. |
| Zeke (aka Zekey) - adopted - About 2 year old Belgium Malinois mix rescued from the dog pound to euthanized the next day. Was left in an apartment with no food or water for 2 weeks after owner moved. Owner was contacted the day before he was to be euthanized and refused to pick him up. Has started protection work and is doing very well. He stays in the house. Sleeps on the floor next to the bed. He is a great dog and is my personal favorite (Sully is a close second). He has been placed at an undisclosed location with an FBI agent who loves to watch football with Zekey sitting on the couch with him and his friends. | |
| Sonny – an 12 month old Rhodesian Ridgeback that was found at the dog pound to be euthanized. No history on him otherwise. He is in training for house manners and such but is doing great so far (doesn’t jump, bark, or growl). A very happy dog all the time and loves attention. Extremely handsome. We like him a lot. | |
| Clifford – Five year old White Shepherd Mix. Was abandoned, skunked, and hit by a car. Ended up at the dog pound with a broken hip to be euthanized the next day. Not a good day for Clifford until Nicki found him and nursed him back to perfect health. His hip is completely healed with no limp. Great dog, loves attention and well behaved. | |
| Alfie – About one year old Australian Shepherd Lab mix. He was found as a stray and is very thin. He is gaining weight well and is a very cute guy. He will probably weight about 50 pounds at a good weight. He is very friendly and gets along well with other dogs. Both his eyes are a beautiful blue. He is going to make someone a great dog. | |
